Majority thinks that palliative care is being provided only in cases, when the end of life comes rapidly, though palliative care means something much wider in reality. It means comprehensive care, which is acknowledgment and control of pain, social, physiological and mental problems of patients, whose treatment is not possible.
While broadcasting “How to live better?” we were talking about necessities in the field of palliative care, how it goes with the creation of hospice in Latvia and bedridden patients – in which case it is better to take care of them at home or in a hospital?
In radio studio HOSPISS LV social charity organization’s representative Ilze Zosule, Children clinical university hospital’s Palliative care service’s leader and pediatrician Andra Jansone, as well as “Elite” health centers unity’s family doctor Ingars Burlaks are taking part.
During the broadcast we heard a story of experience from hospice care patient’s daughter-in-law Jelena Kirilova. Jelena explained in detail the feeling of despair, ignorance and disorientation faced when they are not able to help a close person medically. Jelena also confirmed the responsive and professional help received by her family from hospiss team. Family is satisfied that the mother has received a care full of dignity at the end of her life as every inhabitant of Latvia earns.
Hospiss Maja social worker Inga Nelubina has explained the details and motivation of work in this field.
HOSPISS LV team is grateful to the broadcast creators, guests and listeners.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO STAND FOR FREEDOM TO LIVE THE END OF LIFE IN DIGNITY.
