Thanks to Latvian University for providing the class room in LU Riga Medical College. We were pleased to be met very nicely, there was music in a classroom, chairs placed carefully one hour before our visit already. Special thanks to Inta Fedetova for hospitality.
As the lecture is more than 7 hours long, we had coffee, tea and as much as a warm lunch! This was provided thanks to Kalve Coffee and The Urban Coffee! If you are near Marupe, definitely come to cheer them – very heart talking people work there!
Thanks to our lecturers, who provided the most sufficient – knowledge!
The theologian and supervisor Dana Kalnina-Zaķe taught us to listen actively. It's not as easy as it might seem. Active presence in listening requires an active awareness of one's personal weaknesses as a listener. Do you really let people tell you their pain? Do you intervene, rush in, give unsolicited advice, perhaps willingly "help" by interjecting your own similar experience? Do you make sure you understand the person correctly? Do you also take the time to analyse yourself during and after the process? It turns out that for a storyteller to truly feel relieved to shake their heart for us, serious work needs to be done.
Ilze Neimane-Neshpora, one of the founders of HospissLV, inspired and touched us with her selfless work, sincerity and wisdom on the way to a dignified life in Latvia.
Psychotherapist and supervisor Ilze Dreifelde educated us about stress management and burnout syndrome. Being a volunteer in patient care requires active psychological involvement, which can be overwhelming. Being attentive to yourself and giving SEV time EVERY DAY is an important challenge.
We wish to express our GRATEFULNESS in public!

HOSPISS LV volunteers’ studies on Saturday – first from four study days!
Thanks to our volunteers, who were as much as 40! We are grateful for trust and genuine wish to be involved! 60% of work in hospice care is being made by volunteers worldwide. Though hospice care in Latvia is just in its beginning, we can be proud of many interested people, still only a small part are active and trustful real activists! We see and feel that the amount of active people will grow!
