As a tradition, Hospiss LV's hardest-working volunteers celebrate the New Year by meeting on 6 January, the date celebrated as Epiphany in the church.
On 12 December 2024, a warm and inspiring opening event of "Festive Table" in Kuldīga took place in the premises of Kuldīga Hospital, with the participation of hospital staff, volunteers and representatives of "Hospiss LV" organisation from Riga and Ventspils. Now, at least once a week, the "Festive Table" charity event will also take place in the Therapy Department of Kuldīga Hospital to cheer up seriously ill patients with treats, a chat and emotional support.
In 2024, the main prize in the category "Collective Achievement" was awarded to the Hospiss LV Foundation, which advocates for a dignified end of life for terminally ill people every day, and achieved state-funded hospice care at home in Latvia.
Hospiss LV volunteers are expanding their charity project, “Holiday Table,” which has already been successfully implemented in hospitals in Riga, Valmiera, and Ventspils, to hospitals in Bauska and Kuldīga. Therefore, we are seeking volunteers from these areas who are eager to share their warmth and kindness.
On its birthday, HospissLV expressed thanks to its most active volunteers, without whom many charity projects would not be possible.
During the week of HospissLV’s birthday, celebrations took place in all hospitals where we regularly visit with a Festive Table: featuring flowers, cake, a traditional Latvian "kliņģeris" (sweet bread), and a special festive concert.
"HospissLV" is committed to ensuring a quality life until the very last breath, where every moment matters. Therefore, we believe that celebrations, especially birthdays, should be enjoyed to the fullest! That's why we celebrate the birthdays of patients under the care of the social enterprise "Hospiss Māja."
For the eighth year, the magazine "Pastaiga," with the help of experts from various fields, has compiled a list of the most influential women in Latvia. This year, the list includes four representatives from the charity organization "Hospiss LV".
If you are long-term caring for a family member, don't miss the opportunity to sign up for the autumn session of the support group "Līdzās būt," which starts on September 25th. "We come to the support group with burdens, but we leave with relief. It's as if we breathe it out," says the group leader.
The charitable organization “Hospiss LV” continues its active efforts to implement a hospice care system in Latvia that aligns with European countries' best practices and experiences. Therefore, we have written an open letter regarding the conclusions and necessary improvements regarding hospice care in Latvia, which we have submitted to both the Minister of Welfare, Uldis Augulis, the Minister of Health, Hosam Abu Meri, and the Social and Labor Affairs Committee of the Saeima.
