The celebration week began with musicians from the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) performing at the Bikernieki Palliative Care Unit, where a fantastic string quartet played both the classical “Melancholic Waltz” and Joe Dassin's romantic melody, "Champs-Élysées." Simultaneously, in the Vidzeme Hospital, patients were delighted by the charming voice of Gunita Bārda, singing beloved Latvian songs. On Wednesday, the LNSO violin duet performed at Riga's 1st Hospital, and the following day, a cellist and a double bassist played at Stradiņi Hospital. Such a concert had never before taken place in Stradiņi Hospital! Similarly, a concert was held for the first time at the North Kurzeme Regional Hospital, where senior students from Ventspils Music School played in the Palliative Care Unit. The concerts moved not only the patients but also the staff.
As is fitting for a birthday, the "Festive Table," usually full of treats, was even more exquisite this time. It featured honey cake, savory “kliņģeris,” cottage cheese treats, small savory snacks, and ice cream. And exceptionally, a real candle burned on the cake! This time, the flowers were not for the birthday celebrant (HospissLV) but were given to the hospitals and patients.
HospissLV extends its gratitude to the LNSO Foundation for supporting the organization of these concerts.
