The European Citizens' Prize is a Europe-wide award given by the European Parliament to individuals, groups or organisations for outstanding achievements and contributions.
The prize is awarded for day-to-day activities that reinforce the common values of human dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
"The biggest reward for a volunteer is gratitude in people's eyes," said the Hospiss LV team upon receiving the medal. Other inspirations for the "From Volunteer to Hero!" Ints Teterovskis from Brīvprātīgie.lv, Dāniels Liecis from Latvian Youth Council (LJP), Kārlis Bardelis from Bored of Borders - invited to see the volunteer in each of us and to contribute to an organisation or initiative.
At the ceremony, the European Citizens' Prize 2022 medal was presented to Hospiss LV Board Chair Ilze Neimane-Nešpora by Maija Bērtiņa, who nominated the foundation for the award, and European Citizens' Prize 2022 national jury member Aldis Kušķis. The European Citizens' Prize 2022 awarded to Hospiss LV for its pilot project providing care assistance to oncology patients for a dignified exit.
