On World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, Mrs Elga, or Elgina as we affectionately called her, would have celebrated her name day.
Yes, she is no more. She died on an autumn night in her home, loved and cared for. As her health deteriorated, Elga wanted to spend the last months of her life at home. Her wish was heard and, with the support of her family and the Hospiss team (whom Elga affectionately called her "angels"), fulfilled.
Elgiņa sang in the opera choir and the State Academic Choir "Latvia" in her youth, music was close to her heart and conversations about it accompanied every time we met. We are very pleased and grateful that we could spend this time together. We have enjoyed cordial conversations, sometimes with a glass of wine in our hands and sometimes singing and watching theatre performances. But above all, believing that the last days of life can be different - dignified.
Believing that we can give and receive at the same time. Free to (re)live!
