On 1 October 2021, the Ministry of Welfare (MoH) launched the pilot project "Hospice care at home for adults and support for their family members", but this year on 31st of December funding expires.
"Hospiss LV" has asked the Saeima to consider the initiative and find financial resources for the provision of state-funded hospice care services to ensure dignified death at the patient's home or in specially created places such as hospice inpatients for vulnerable people with incurable diseases in their terminal phase, where the expected length of survival is up to six months. It also proposes to introduce changes in the laws and regulations and to define hospice care as one of the types of social care service, to define the principles and tasks of hospice care, as well as the requirements for providers of this service.
