The Poles are eager to share their knowledge because they see hospice as a family and hope that the movement will grow globally.
The hospice in Gdańsk is the second hospice in Poland, chronologically speaking. It has been operating since 1983, providing both home care and inpatient care.
Sopot Hospice Hospital - 26 beds, 21 years of operation. According to PL legislation, oncology patients are admitted first. The service is free of charge for patients. 80% public funding (last two years).
A visit to two different hospice providers in the same country provided important insights into good and bad practices in service provision. Only with knowledge-based experience can the most appropriate decisions be taken in the development of the hospice and the overall service for the situation in Latvia and the desired quality of service.
