The aim of the Garden Festival was to give guests a feel of what the Hospice team does on a daily basis in hospitals and projects, and to show that it can all be possible in one place - the Hospice Hospital.
Friends of the Hospice were able to experience the healing power of symphonic music, to indulge in heartfelt conversations that provide support, a sense of security and peace, and to feel small but genuine moments of joy - for example, when enjoying ice cream, which is also a great treat for patients in palliative care units.
My sincere thanks to everyone who has been with us on this journey for almost six years. From the moment when the idea of a hospice was still growing in our minds, to the moment when we can already meet in a place where this idea will become a reality. This is only possible thanks to your support, sincerity and belief in what we are doing.
This project is still a dream and was the start of the Hospiss LV idea and volunteering movement almost 6 years ago.
For this project, Kārlis Bardelis raised donations by rowing across the oceans as part of "rowing the house", and the donations from the project have gone towards the design of the building.
Our social enterprise "Hospiss Māja", which provides state-funded hospice care in patients' homes, is named after this project.
Our dream has taken shape, with a location in the dunes and an address. A place to live, a place to enjoy, a place to fulfil our last wishes, big and small, a place to stay, to hold hands, a place where volunteers and professionals work side by side. There is still a little way to go to adapt the building, to renovate it in places, but its warm, bright aura is already enchanting.
Everyone is welcome to join the Hospiss LV movement!
With a donation, which is so important right now, so that this project and others like it don't stop! https://hospiss.lv/ziedot-hospiss/
Become a volunteer! Visit patients in Palliative Care Units (we organise visits in Riga, Valmiera, Cesis, Kuldīga, Ventspils, Bauska and soon also in Liepaja) or get involved by baking a treat, singing, drawing and otherwise cheering up to the best of your skills and abilities.
